The Hospices Civils de Beaune sell their wine production each year in Burgundy, with the auction run by Sotheby's. France.fr calls it the oldest charity wine auction in the world, dating from 1859, with more than 500 items from the Hospices' vineyards on offer.
The lots are presented in the Grande Halle de Beaune. At the 2022 sale a 228-litre Corton Grand Cru piece, equal to 300 bottles, sold for EUR 810,000, a record. The auction is the high point of the Trois Glorieuses, a three-day festival in Beaune.
